What is BritBox?

BritBox is a new streaming video service offering the biggest collection of British television… ever. From current series to timeless dramas and comedies, from award-winning documentaries to soaps and lifestyle shows, BritBox virtually transports you across the pond and puts you square in front of UK television’s greatest treasures. The service is created by two of Britain’s content powerhouses, the BBC and ITV, and is only available in the US.


What do I get with my subscription?

You get exclusive premieres, hard-to-find gems, national treasures and everyday favourites all in one convenient place for the first time. In short, you get the most British television programming available anywhere. Drama. Mysteries. Comedies. Documentaries. Lifestyle. Classics. Additionally, our Now category allows you to view shows like EastEnders, Emmerdale and more as soon as 24 hours after they air in the UK.


Can I try it before I subscribe?

How much is it?

BritBox is only $6.99 a month, and gives you unlimited access to all BritBox programmes including exclusive premieres, hard-to-find gems, national treasures and everyday favourites.


Who owns BritBox?

BritBox is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and ITV, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster. AMC Networks, which has a joint venture with BBC Worldwide for cable channel BBC AMERICA, is investing in BritBox with a non-voting minority interest. BBC Worldwide and ITV share an equal majority stake in the joint venture.


Why can’t I find any of the BBC America shows on BritBox?

Our goal is to unlock access to more great British programmes, adding to what you can already get on BBC America and other TV and digital outlets.


Why can’t I find the British show I am looking for on BritBox?

The BritBox team is working hard to secure the rights to a variety of high quality British shows across all genres, but sometimes the rights to great shows are unavailable due to a number of reasons. In some cases the rights have already been granted exclusively to another distributor. In other cases we find an amazing show but learn that we cannot offer it because it is not cleared for the U.S., or that certain parts are not cleared for the U.S. (such as music, some footage, certain actors). Another reason could be because other broadcast or digital companies in the U.S. invest in a new show at the beginning when it is being created, which prevents other distributors from being able to offer it once it is finished. Is BritBox the same as BBC iPlayer or the ITV Hub?

BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub are services that allow you to watch TV shows online for a 30-day catch up period after they air, only available in the U.K. BritBox is a separate service only offered in the U.S. market that brings a wide range British programming to the U.S., a majority of which is not available anywhere else in the market. BritBox includes a mix of classic and new programming across all genres, with shows added regularly.

Do you have news content?

Yes, we do have some news content available – series likeThe PapersandPrime Minister’s Questions, but we are not a news service. We want to bring you some of the news content that is currently not already available on other outlets in the U.S. such as BBC World News.

How do I request a show?

Why are some shows no longer available? When will they be back?

BritBox needs to secure proper licenses for our content and those licenses are granted for a limited period of time. If a license for a show has expired we can often extend it but sometimes we have to remove it from the service. You can find shows that are leaving BritBox soon in the “Last Chance” section. If we don’t have a show you would like to see, please email us atsuggestions-us@britbox.com.


How often do new shows come to BritBox?

New episodes will appear almost daily for many shows in the “Now” category. Other premieres, including dramas, comedies, and documentaries, will be added every month.


How to use BritBox


How do I sign in?

To sign in, follow these steps:

  1. Click on “Sign In” or the circular ID Icon in the upper right corner
  2. Enter your email address and password
  3. If you’ve forgotten your password, click the “Forgot your password” link on the sign in page and we’ll email you a link to reset your password.

How do I change my billing information?

  1. Go to your profile online
  2. Click on “Account details”
  3. Click on the “Subscription” tab
  4. Under “Payment method” click “Change”

If you signed up via your iTunes, Google Play or Roku account, you will need to go to those accounts to change your billing information.


How does billing work?

The credit card you have on file in your account will be billed automatically each month on the same day as your original subscription, after the initial trial period is over. Your BritBox subscription will automatically renew each month unless you cancel before the end of billing month.


How do I cancel?

You can cancel online at any time by taking the following steps:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on “Account details”
  3. Click on the “Subscription” tab
  4. Click “Cancel Your Subscription” at the bottom of the page

If you signed up via your iTunes, Google Play or Roku account, go to your account settings to cancel your subscription there:


How do I change my email address?

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on “Account details”
  3. Click on the “Your Details” tab
  4. Enter your new email address into the field on the page and click “Update”

Remember, your email address is your login, so you’ll need to use the updated address to login to BritBox in the future.


How do I change my password?

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on “Account details”
  3. Click on the “Password” tab
  4. Enter your current password and your new password, and click “Change”

How do I set parental controls?

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click “Parental Controls” For security purposes you will be asked to enter your Password
  3. Create a four-digit PIN
  4. Click the slider below your PIN to set the appropriate level of viewing restriction
  5. Click “Save”

Any viewer who wants to watch a programme that is restricted will be asked to enter the PIN before they can watch.


What are TV ratings?

TV ratings give you more information about how to choose content appropriate for your family. For more information, visithttp://www.tvguidelines.org.


How do I access closed captioning?

If closed captioning is available for a show simply click on the “CC” icon on the lower right hand side of the video player to turn it on, and click on “CC” again to turn it off. Our service meets the FCC requirements for closed captioning and we aim to caption all of our content soon.


Why do some shows have different looking captioning?

For shows that do not require U.S. closed captions we delivered captions from the U.K., where available. You may notice that the U.K. closed captioning looks different than U.S. captioning, for example U.K. captioning uses different colors to indicate that different characters are speaking.


What platforms can I watch BritBox on?

BritBox is available across the web (www.britbox.com), Apple TV (4th Generation), Roku, iPhones, iPad, Android handsets, tablets, and Chromecast. We will be adding more platforms in the coming months. If you have a suggestion or a request, email us atsuggestions-us@britbox.com.


Where can I stream BritBox?

BritBox is currently available in the U.S. only.


Do I need a cable or satellite subscription?

No. BritBox is available without a cable or satellite subscription. You can start watching right now with a 7-day free trial.


Do I need to download additional software to use BritBox?

If you would like to watch BritBox on your computer or mobile devices, just go towww.britbox.com. You can also use our mobile and tablet apps on your Apple and Android devices and access our TV apps from Roku and Apple TV, but it’s not mandatory.

Can I download shows to take with me?

Not currently, but you can easily access BritBox on your mobile device with an internet connection.


Can I buy shows?

No. BritBox is a subscription service and doesn’t currently offer shows for purchase.


Can I watch on multiple devices?

Yes, absolutely.
