Our Editorial Standards

Our articles and watch guides exist for one reason: to help you find something worth watching tonight. This page explains who writes them, how we check them, and what to do if we get something wrong.

Who Writes and Edits Our Articles

BritBox is responsible for everything published here. Our articles are written by a combination of in-house writers and freelancers.

Before anything goes live, our brand team reviews it to make sure it follows our guidelines.

The show, season, and episode descriptions you see elsewhere on britbox.com are written by our Editorial team, who know these shows rather well.

Where Our Expertise Comes From

BritBox launched in 2017 and is now wholly owned by BBC Studios. We bring British TV to viewers in the US, Canada, and beyond, so our specialty is British TV seen through the eyes of an audience that isn’t British. We know which shows travel well, and which ones need a word about the Tube or a bank holiday.

When we write about a show, we focus on three things: the writing, the performances, and the place. A windswept stretch of Northumberland coast can matter as much as the murder.

How We Check the Facts

We treat every claim as if a BBC editor will check it. Before an article is published, we verify:

  • Actor names and cast credits
  • Episode counts, air dates, and release years
  • The original network and any source novel or play
  • Every direct quote

If we can’t confirm a claim in two independent sources, we cut it. We keep the accents in people’s names, too: Siân stays Siân.

Our title marketing team knows our shows inside and out and checks articles for accuracy We stick to what happens on screen and don’t speculate about renewals, cancellations, or anyone’s off-screen life.

Corrections and Updates

When we get something wrong, we fix it.

Casts change and new seasons arrive, so we revisit articles to keep them current.

Our Independence (and Our Obvious Interest)

We’d be fibbing if we said we had no stake in what you watch. British TV is our business, and we’d love you to watch with us.

Even so, our recommendations aren’t limited to our own library. Some of the shows and actors we cover are on BritBox and some aren’t, because a good guide to British TV has to include both. When a show is on BritBox, we link to it so you can find it easily.

How We Use AI

We sometimes use AI tools to help with research outlines and early drafts. A human writer and editor are responsible for every published word, check every fact the tool produces, and put their names to the work. We never use AI to invent authors, bios, or photos.
